MicoVital Shiitake is a food supplement based on the extract of the shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes), of which the fruiting body is used exclusively.

What are medicinal mushrooms?

Although until a few years ago fungi were classified as vegetables, today they are considered to constitute an independent kingdom of equal rank to animals and plants. By having a high nutritional profile of proteins, micronutrients and important bioactive compounds, they are an important nutritional tool to take care of our health.

They represent an important source of biologically active polysaccharides in fruiting bodies or sterile heads in some cases. Most of these polysaccharides belong to the group of beta-glucans; these have beta-(1—>3) linkages in the glucan backbone and additional beta-(1—>6) branch points that are responsible for the properties of these medicinal mushrooms.

The Chinese or shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) is an edible mushroom with a brown color and intense aroma. Its common name comes from Japanese, formed by the words "take", which means mushroom, and "shii", which alludes to the tree on which it usually grows, Castanopsis cuspidata, a variety of oak.

It wears a beautiful beige and brown hat, soft to the touch, which in the wild can reach 25 centimeters in diameter.

It may be the first cultivated mushroom, around 2000 years ago, in Japan, Korea and some regions of China. The Japanese kyusuyu ethnic group offered them to Emperor Chuai around the year 199, and the emperors of the Ming dynasty enjoyed them to maintain vigor and youth.
