Description
Some seeds (such as basil, arugula, watercress, flax, yellow mustard, chia, perilla, purslane, camelina...) when in contact with water, develop a viscous and sticky film that It is called mucilage. These seeds cannot be germinated in traditional germinators. However, you will be able to get excellent results using the Germline germination cup.
Intake mode
The following steps are recommended:
- Rinse the seeds by taking a teaspoon and soak them in a glass of water for 15 minutes.
Fill up to two 2/3 of the bowl with water, leaving 4 - 5 mm free on the upper edge. - Soak the seeds and spread them on the grid, covering the entire grid and without overlapping them.
Place the grid with the seeds on the ceramic plate until the grid floats. - Moisten 2-3 times a day and leave a little water in the dish, to maintain moisture at the bottom.
- Cover with a plate during the first 2-3 days of germination, since this way the seeds will maintain humidity better (a plate with the same diameter as the germinator, upside down).
- The seeds develop their roots downwards, towards the water. As soon as they reach the water and start to drink the water that is under the grid, the plate that we had put to protect them can be removed.
- Cut the shoots at their base with the help of scissors, if the water in the dish turns brown, remove the water. Germinated seeds can also be washed before consumption in water with vinegar.
Precautions
Don't overload the tray with seeds; remember that they will increase in volume (2 to 4 times). In most cases, one tablespoon is enough.
Avoid double layers of seeds, otherwise they will be short of air and germination will not work.
