Shikakai also known as Acacia Concinna, is an Indian Ayurvedic herb rich in saponins.

Properties and benefits of Shikakai

It is used directly as a hair mask or as a natural shampoo. It is also used in the production of natural soaps and shampoos. It is popular due to its many benefits for hair, such as preventing hair loss, controlling dandruff, providing shine and strength to hair, conditioning etc.

How to apply Shikakai?

– To wash hair: Mix 2 or 3 tablespoons of shikakai with hot water until it forms a creamy paste. Let it cool and apply it to wet scalp. It is recommended to leave it on for approximately 5-10 minutes before rinsing with water.

– For hair mask: Mix shikakai powder with yogurt until you get a homogeneous paste. Apply the mixture to slightly damp hair and massage throughout the hair from root to tip. Let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then rinse it with water.

– For facial mask: Mix one tablespoon of shikakai powder and half a cup of pure cold-pressed argan oil. Apply the mixture to your face (avoiding direct contact with your eyes) and let it sit for 5 minutes on your skin before washing it off with water. This mixture can be used up to three times a week and can be stored in a clean container in a cool, dark place for one month.
