Description
Cascara Sagrada de Neo is a plant from the American continent and belongs to the Rhamnaceae family. Its name comes from the false belief that this plant was really a tree and that its bark had been used to make Noah's Ark. The active part of this plant is precisely its bark, which is very rich in hydroxyanthracenic heterosides, mainly glycosylantrones and glycosides. Among these, the cascarósides stand out, substances with a physiological action. It also contains anthraquinones and anthrones.
Properties and benefits of Sacred Shell
Traditionally, cascara sagrada has been used as a short-acting laxative. Its action lies in the ability of these substances to modify its structure in the large intestine thanks to the breakage of the molecules and the action exerted by the intestinal flora of the area. This metabolic action favors an increase in the peristaltic movement (typical of the intestines) and a greater secretion of water and electrolytes from the mucosa to the outside, favoring evacuation.
