Edamame is the name given to the immature soybean pod. When the plant has about 4 true leaves, it is time to transplant to the final ground. Soybeans like direct sun, but it requires that we keep the substrate moist at all times. If you want to consume the fresh beans (to cook the typical edamame), harvest all the pods. If you prefer to consume them dry, the pods have a coating that makes them resistant to inclement weather, so you can leave them on the plant during the fall and harvest them as needed. Edamame can be eaten alone, being a simple snack to cook and very healthy, you can also use it in soups and other dishes. Edamame is rich in complete plant protein, as well as Omega-3 Acids. It also has calcium and vitamin C. When the pods are ripe and ready to harvest, the leaves of the plant will begin to fall off, leaving only brown stems with many hanging pods.
