The oil is mainly made up of essential fatty acids, especially linoleic (35-52%), linolenic (22-40%), oleic (12-18%), palmitic acid (3-8%), stearic and trans-retinoic. Due to its high content of fatty acids, it confers flexibility to cell membranes and is related to the synthesis of collagen and elastin, providing elasticity and firmness to the skin. Trans-retinoic acid generates important changes in the keratinization process, thereby increasing the rate of epidermal regeneration, so it is used for the treatment of aged skin.
